Manager, Tax Accounting

Job Summary 

Reporting to the Director, Finance, and to the Vice-President, Tax, the Manager, Tax will be responsible for ensuring timely compilation and filing of the Company’s international, federal, state, and local income and indirect tax returns, and corresponding tax accounting requirements; 

(S)he will also assess the tax implications of the Company’s financial planning and strategic objectives, and recommend ways to minimize obligations through use of tax laws and regulations; 

(S)he will further have general oversight responsibilities for all tax departmental matters, including managing a group of 5 tax professionals, and monitoring scheduling and staffing needs 


Major Responsibilities 
Tax and Financial Reporting 
• Reviews and ensures overseas branch tax return workpapers are prepared and provided to overseas tax preparers, and filed in a timely manner; 

• Manages international, multi-state, and local indirect tax returns including domestic sales and use tax returns, overseas Value-Added Tax returns, overseas Goods and Services Tax returns, and domestic property tax returns filings; 

• Participates and supports international, federal, state, and local tax audits, and defends the Company’s tax positions; 

• Acts as liaison to ensure proper co-ordination of consolidated tax reporting requirements; 

• Reviews all tax-related documentation and determines appropriate strategy for responding; 

• Estimates accurate cash flow for all tax-related activities; 

• Oversees tax accounting process including completion of annual tax provision reporting packages and monthly general ledger tax account reconciliations 

• Oversees local branch cost plus accounting and process, including completion of annual tax package reporting, and management of annual local statutory audit requirements 

Tax Supervisory 
• Manages tax professional training and resource requirements; 

• Monitors staff performance through providing ongoing feedback and support of the semi-annual and annual review process; 

• Oversees the recruitment, onboarding, and training processes for new staff, and ensures continued departmental compliance with the Company’s policies and procedures 



Qualifications

 Knowledge/Skill Requirements 
• Advanced knowledge of international tax principles, including transfer pricing methodologies and permanent establishment concepts; 

• Ability to maintain and manage good relationships with external advisors, tax authority representatives, and internal domestic and foreign directors, managers, and staff throughout various corporate departments; 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving approach to assignments, combined with an ability to multi-task where required; 

• Strong project management skills, and the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and communicate recommendations; 

• Dedication to team-building and knowledge-sharing; 

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, and a general knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (“ERP”) systems such SAP as Oracle; 


Education/Experience Requirements 
• Master’s or JD degree in Taxation, or equivalent; 

• CPA license preferred; 

• 5 plus years of dedicated tax experience either with “Big 4” accounting firm or corporate tax department; 

• Experience supervising tax professionals, including assigning and directing work, training, and appraisal 


Other Requirements 
• Ability to travel up to 5% of time.
