Manager, Cost Accounting - Global

Job Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the proper valuation of accounting standard costs, inventories and fixed assets for purchased and manufactured products worldwide. This position also provides analytical support to company management.


Major Responsibilities

Oversight of all Cost Accounting

  • Manage the cost accounting department in Lake Forest California.

  • Ensure that inventory balances are properly stated in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

  • Review bills of materials to ensure that they were prepared properly and that the BOM accurately represents the actual product produced (ABU and PAC).

  • Supervise cost analysts and fixed asset accountants.

  • Manage fixed asset accounting.

  • Lead and assist with month-end closings (JV approval, JV control, JV entries, reconciliations, and reporting).

  • Point of contact for all questions relating to actual and standard costs.

  • Provide Financial Analysis support for manufacturing, product development and tester groups.

Development of standard cost rates for labor, materials, and overhead with Department Managers

  • Compare standard costs to actual costs and periodically update costs in Oracle.

  • Investigate variances between actual and standard costs.

  • Manage timely updates of product costs.

  • Develop bench marking to evaluate performance of business units and/or departments.

  • Provide analytical support to operations, engineering and marketing.

Leadership/Supervisory

  • Lead and assist on special projects as required.

  • Supervises, trains and mentors employees.

  • Lead and assist in the preparation of company forecasts and budgets.

  • Works with the accounting team to ensure a timely profit and loss statement closing and preparation of reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.

  • Educate employees and managers on accounting principles and reasons for the implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley regulation.

  • Analyze accounting processes, expenses, and recommend improvements to efficiency.

Internal and external audits.

  • KPMG and external reporting preparation for Accounting Manager review.

  • Internal audits

  • Includes schedule preparation, process updates etc.

Policies and procedures.

  • Continuously review operational processes and make recommendations to improve efficiencies and control costs.

  • Supports Accounting and Finance Management with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) updates, policy write-up and research

  • Makes recommendations to management to improve operating efficiencies and to strengthen internal controls.



Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field. MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred but not required.

  • 7+ years of overall experience in Cost accounting /Manufacturing accounting preferably in a global publicly held company in Aerospace/Defense, Electronics, High Tech or Other components manufacturing industries

  • 3+ years of managerial/supervisory experience preferred

  • Proficient in the use of Oracle, GLDI, Discoverer, and Cognos.

  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with employees/management and ability to read situations and apply diplomacy and tact in communications needed to perform duties.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to provide insight and creative suggestions when pursuing special projects.

  • Expertise in the Development and maintenance of complex spreadsheets and databases.

  • Big picture perspective and ability to determine how to use resources to meet schedules, projects, goals and deadlines.

  • Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
