Location: Corona, CA

Position: BU Controller 

direct reports (AP, AR, G/L, Payroll)

Reports to President with heavy dotted line to Corporate Controller

Salary: up to $130K + 15% bonus (Flex DOE)

System: converting from old legacy to JD Edwards; just started and projected for completion within 1 year

 

Criteria/Hot Buttons:

·         Bachelor’s degree; MBA, CMA or CPA a plus but not require

·         Manufacturing experience preferably within components manufacturing

·         Strong hands on Cost Accounting experience at Plant or BU level 

·         Experience with ERP implementations (JD Edwards) helpful

·         Needs Sharp/Proactive Right Hand person to President

·         Strong leadership to help migrate company from family to corporate in all aspects of Culture, Reporting, Business Processes, etc. 

·         They have old legacy system that was manual and JD E will automate a lot of that to hopefully reduce M/E close to 3 days (since Corp Controller onboard, it’s already reduced to 4.5 to 5 days)

·         Tenure is very important when reviewing resumes, so not someone that’s jumped around every 1-2 years. 

·         Strong growth potential as company does heavy acquisitions and adding more companies…perhaps Regional or Group Controller down the road.  Corporate Controller is an option should he leaves/moves up.

Job Summary:

The Financial Plant Controller position encompasses responsibility for all accounting activities at the plant level. Activities include: Plant P&L and Balance Sheet analysis and ownership; maintaining the data integrity and accuracy for the General Ledger, Inventory Control, Fixed Assets, Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables; tracks, reports, presents financial performance during the year. Assists the General Manager in the preparation of operating plans, forecasts, outlooks, and capital budgets. Participates in implementing company directed policies and procedures as needed and interfaces with the Corporate accounting staff to coordinate the company’s quarterly and annual external audits.

 

The Financial Plant Controller plays a key management role in assisting the Corporate Controller to ensure financial statement is in compliance with USGAAP requirements.

Specific Job Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:

 

 Responsible for the preparation and analysis of all financial statements & information at the Plant Level. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of all transactions that interface with the General Ledger. Adhere to all USGAAP requirements.

 

 Provide business leadership in assisting the Plant Manager in preparation of the annual operating budget, strategic plans, quarterly outlooks and capital budgets.

 

 Responsible for assisting in the development of financial outlooks and forecasts. Develop models to help track and explain financial trends. Provide analysis as required.

 

 Works with the Plant Mgr. and key Manufacturing Managers to understand analyze and provide corrective action to plant cost variances and critical business issues.

 

    On a daily / weekly / monthly basis, analyze production costs and variances. Report any exceptions to the Plant Manager and manufacturing personnel that warrant explanations or corrective action. Work with manufacturing personnel to suggest and implement corrective action.

 

 Supervise daily Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivables, Receiving & Payroll functions, including monthly reconciliations & reporting.

 

 Achieve daily visibility to Manufacturing personnel (In the office & on the shop floor). Attend daily mfg. production meetings; participate in mfg. departmental staff meetings; test assumptions by observing production on the shop floor; develop relationships to ensure effective communication lines.

 

 Participate in facility task forces, teams, or committees within the organization to implement positive process improvements, cost reduction, etc that are in line with strategic objectives of the Plant.

 

 New Product Standard Cost Update – Review and approve accuracy of product structure and routing files before updating base, current and going-to cost.

 

 Review Daily Engineering Changes – Review and evaluate cost implications of engineering changes to routing and/or product structure.

 

 Prepare, present and assist the Plant Mgr. and his staff with monthly cost center reports.

 

 Review, analyze and report scrap.

 

 Inventory- Provide analysis on inventory levels, cycle count accuracy, obsolete & slow moving levels.

 

 Monitor Work Orders – insure completed work orders are being closed and investigate work orders without activity.

 

 Prepare & analyze monthly contribution margin reports.

 

 Assist with annual budgeted labor and overhead calculation

 

 Assist in the preparation and execution of the year-end cost roll.

 

 Fixed Assets – Responsible for the accounting and reconciling of all facility assets to the General Ledger.

 

 Partner with the Corporate Controller in developing accounting policies and procedures to ensure the necessary financial reporting controls.

 

 Responsible for managing and the maintenance of all financial system applications.

 

 Provide business leadership and direction to special projects as required involving financial systems implementation, enhancements, and upgrades.

 

 Present financial statements with the required reporting & analysis to the General Manager and Corporate Controller to insure compliance with corporate financial policies and procedures.

 

 Assist Corporate Controller with coordination of the company’s annual audit and assist with company financial analysis as required.

 

 Participate in company task forces, teams, or committees within the organization to implement positive process improvements, cost reduction, etc that are in line with strategic objectives of the Corporation.

 

 Effectively manage Accounting Staff (direct reports) by establishing and prioritizing goals and objectives, developing a team atmosphere and fostering an environment for empowering employees and ensuring growth and succession planning.

 

Qualifications / Background:

 

    B.A. or B.S. in Accounting. MBA / CPA desirable.

 

    Minimum of five years experience in Manufacturing or Private Accounting.

 

    Posses a strong understanding of Financial concepts and processes in accordance with GAAP.

 

    Exhibits strong analytical skills related to Manufacturing Cost and General Accounting Transactions. Ability to develop creative alternative solutions to business problems.

 

    Demonstrates strong judgment & reasoning. Posse’s excellent communication skills, both verbal & oral, with the ability to express ideas in a clear and logical manner.

 

    Must be able to effectively interface with all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.

 

    Must have the ability to multi-task or work on concurrent projects and still meet customer expectations with the same results, service and quality.

 

Extensive PC skills with spreadsheet and database applications. Good understanding of IS business practices and procedures.
